Since 11 June 2026 every Portugal visa application in the United States is submitted in person at the centre with jurisdiction over the applicant's residence. Bring the original passport.

Alabama, Arkansas, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and the Bahamas.
Washington DC, Chicago, Houston and Miami serve one consular jurisdiction together; applicants in these states may book at whichever of the four is most convenient.
Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont apply at the Consulate General in Boston; New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware at Newark; Rhode Island at Providence; the New Bedford area at New Bedford. Those applicants do not use VFS.
